The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic has directed all staff to immediately resume academic and administrative duties following the intervention of the Ondo State Government in the institution’s ongoing industrial dispute.
The directive comes on the heels of measures introduced by the state government under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to restore normalcy and ensure the smooth operation of the polytechnic.
In an official statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations and Protocol Officer, Olumide Olugosi, the management announced the suspension of staff union activities within the polytechnic until further notice. It also disclosed that leaders of the affected unions have been barred from official engagements pending the outcome of an administrative review.
“Management wishes to inform members of the Polytechnic community that the activities of staff unions within the institution have been suspended until further notice, while the leadership of the affected unions is also suspended from official engagements pending further administrative review,” the statement read.
Staff members were consequently directed to comply fully with the government’s directive by returning to their duty posts without delay.
“All staff members are hereby directed to resume their official duties immediately in compliance with the Government’s directive,” the management stated.
The institution further warned that it would enforce the “No Work, No Pay” policy in line with existing Public Service Rules, noting that non-compliance would have financial consequences.
“Management further notes that the ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy will be enforced… and salaries of staff who fail to comply with the directive to resume duty will be affected accordingly,” the statement added.
According to the management, the measures are necessary to restore stability, protect the academic calendar, and ensure institutional continuity.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue with stakeholders while urging cooperation from staff.
“The Polytechnic remains committed to maintaining peace, order, and a conducive environment for teaching, learning, and administrative excellence,” the statement concluded.
