Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the constitution of a committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO).
The decision follows consultations with the institution’s management and labour unions over the harmonisation of salary payment structures for staff.
The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, includes Dr. Wunmi Ilawole, Mr. Olaleye Phillips, Mr. Asonja Oluwole Festus, and Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye.
According to the government, the committee will engage with the polytechnic’s management, staff unions, and relevant state agencies to audit payroll records, address discrepancies in wage implementation, and recommend a sustainable payment framework.
In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved the payment of three months’ outstanding salary arrears owed to workers of the institution.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said the move was aimed at stabilising the institution and restoring confidence among both academic and non-academic staff.
Meanwhile, the governor has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as the substantive Rector of RUGIPO. Adegun had served in an acting capacity since October 2024.
Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring the smooth operation of state-owned tertiary institutions.
