The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate linked to the abduction of one Abubakar Abdullahim at Molege, via Owo, on August 1, 2026.
The arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated operations by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Akure. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives tracked one of the suspects, Adamu Rabiu, to Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was apprehended with the support of the Oyo State Police Command.
In a related operation, the second suspect, Haruna Likita, was arrested in Ipele, near Owo, Ondo State, in connection with the same kidnapping incident.
Preliminary investigations have linked both suspects to the abduction of the victim. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. Police authorities said the confessional statements, alongside other intelligence gathered, are being thoroughly investigated to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other accomplices.
The Command disclosed that efforts have been intensified to dismantle the wider kidnapping network and uncover its operational structure. Investigators are currently pursuing additional leads to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
According to the Police, the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their professionalism, courage and commitment in the fight against violent crimes.
He reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at combating kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial to efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
