The lawmaker representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Donald Ojogo, narrowly escaped death on Saturday when his two vehicle convoy was involved in a road accident.
The accident which reportedly occurred in the Ore-Ondo road involved a commercial bus that dangerously overtook the lawmaker vehicle and collided with a coming vehicle causing panic.
The lawmaker who recently secured a return ticket to the national assembly did not sustain serious injury while members of his entourage are receiving treatment.
Samuel Ibitoye, Ondo State sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident.
Mr Ibitoye, who said the crash involved three vehicles and 19 people, explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened due to wrongful overtaking and overspeeding.
“19 people were involved in total, made up of 15 males and 4 females. Out of the 19 people, two female commuters were severely injured while others were minor”
“The injured victims were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where they received medical attention.
“Two buses and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado were involved,” he said.
The sector commander called on motorists to be patient while driving and use defensive driving techniques to avoid unnecessary crashes.
“Speeding could be thrilling, but it also kills as well; people should avoid speeding while they are driving and also shun wrongful overtaking,” Mr Ibitoye said.
