Brigadier General Jibril Garba has assumed command as the 15th Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army following a formal change of command ceremony held at the Owena Cantonment, Akure, Ondo State.
The ceremony, conducted on Thursday in line with military tradition, marked the transfer of leadership from Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi, who completed his tour of duty as Commander of the Brigade.
In his farewell address, Brigadier General Ifeanyi expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him to lead the Brigade. He described his tenure as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to national security and development.
The outgoing commander also commended officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their loyalty, resilience, discipline and dedication, noting that their collective commitment contributed significantly to the Brigade’s operational and administrative successes.
He urged personnel to extend the same level of cooperation and support to his successor to ensure continuity in the Brigade’s achievements.
Emphasising the importance of professionalism in military service, General Ifeanyi reiterated that discipline remains the cornerstone of the Brigade’s effectiveness. He called on officers and soldiers to uphold and improve existing standards while cautioning against the misuse of social media.
According to him, personnel must remain guided by the Nigerian Army Social Media Policy and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of both the Brigade and the Nigerian Army.
The change of command ceremony featured the signing of handing and taking-over documents, the transfer of the command flag, and the symbolic lowering and hoisting of the command flag at the Quarter Guard. Other highlights included a group photograph and a farewell address to troops.
The assumption of command by Brigadier General Garba is expected to sustain the Brigade’s operational mandate and strengthen ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability within its area of responsibility.
