Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the release of a ₦1.1 billion Special Intervention Fund for the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), to offset outstanding salary arrears owed to members of staff and resolve the ongoing industrial dispute at the institution.
The approval, according to the state government, is part of the governor’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and improving the welfare of workers in the state.
The intervention is expected to facilitate the payment of unpaid salaries, address the concerns raised by the university’s workers, and pave the way for the suspension of the industrial action that has disrupted academic activities.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has directed the Ondo State Ministry of Finance and the management of AAUA to ensure the immediate release and transparent disbursement of the funds to the affected workers.
He also appealed to the university unions to suspend the ongoing strike and return to work in the interest of students and the overall development of the institution.
The governor reiterated that his administration remains committed to ensuring industrial harmony across state-owned institutions, stressing that a motivated workforce is essential to building a globally competitive 21st-century university.
The intervention is expected to restore normal academic activities at the university and reinforce the state government’s commitment to sustaining quality education in Ondo State.
