
A 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, identified as Audi Emmanuel, has been found dead in his off-campus residence along Awolowo Road in the Emure Ile-Owo community, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The deceased, who was studying Computer Engineering at the state-owned institution, was discovered hanging in his room. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear as of the time of this report.
A video circulating on social media on Tuesday showed the lifeless body already in a swollen state, suggesting the incident may have occurred some time before it was discovered. Individuals at the scene were seen covering their noses.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command had commenced an investigation to determine the cause of death.
“The Ondo State Police Command confirms a report of a suspected suicide involving a 20-year-old Rufus Giwa Polytechnic student found dead in his residence at Emure-Ile,” he said.
“Officers visited the scene, recovered the body, and deposited it at the morgue for preservation and autopsy. While initial observations point to suicide, a thorough investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
The police also extended condolences to the family and encouraged members of the public to seek help and speak up during periods of emotional distress.
