The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its operations against motorcycle theft, recording multiple arrests and recoveries in recent weeks.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command said the achievements reflect its “unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, dismantling criminal networks, and safeguarding the livelihoods of residents.”
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Funbi-Fagun Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a 28-year-old suspect, Joseph James, in the early hours of April 9, 2026. He was intercepted while attempting to move a stolen black Boxer motorcycle from the Sabo area of Ondo.
“The motorcycle, valued at approximately ₦500,000 and reported stolen a day earlier, was promptly recovered,” the police said, adding that the suspect had provided useful information while efforts continue to apprehend his fleeing accomplice.
In a separate operation on April 22, police responded to a report by a resident of Araromi Street, Akure, whose red Boxer motorcycle had been stolen. Acting swiftly on intelligence, officers tracked and arrested a suspect, Raji Akeem, at Shasha while he was attempting to dispose of the motorcycle.
The Command disclosed that the suspect had been attacked by a mob before police intervention and is currently receiving medical attention in custody. “The recovered motorcycle has been secured as exhibit, while investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other accomplices,” the statement noted.
In another development, operatives of the Enu Owa Division arrested a suspect linked to a 2025 case involving the fraudulent theft of a commercial motorcyclist’s bike. The suspect, Adedigba Adeola, was apprehended on April 18, 2026.
Police said he initially denied the allegation but later confessed to the crime during interrogation. “He admitted to being the principal actor and revealed that he hid the motorcycle in an uncompleted building for four days before selling it,” the statement said, adding that efforts are ongoing to recover the motorcycle and arrest other individuals connected to the case.
The police noted that the incidents reflect evolving tactics by criminal elements, including deception and the rapid disposal of stolen property. In response, the Command has strengthened intelligence gathering, surveillance, and patrols across identified hotspots.
The Commissioner of Police commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and swift response. He also appreciated the support of the Inspector-General of Police for enhancing operational effectiveness nationwide.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid accepting items from strangers, and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
“The Ondo State Police Command assures the general public of its continued commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment and will not relent in its efforts to rid the State of criminal elements,” the statement added.
