Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed satisfaction with his stewardship, saying he is proud of the progress recorded during his time in office while extending goodwill to his successor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had fired Edun on Tuesday, elevating Taiwo Oyedele, former Minister of State for Finance, into the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued following his exit, Edun thanked Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in multiple capacities since the inception of the administration in May 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that his journey began as head of the Presidential Transition Committee, before taking on the role of Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, and later Minister of Finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has been an honour to contribute to the implementation of the administration\u2019s economic agenda at a pivotal moment in Nigeria\u2019s journey,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reflecting on the state of the economy at the start of the administration, Edun acknowledged the difficult conditions inherited by the government but emphasised that coordinated reforms had begun to yield measurable results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, economic growth improved from about 2 per cent to over 4 per cent, while inflation declined significantly from 35 per cent to 15 per cent \u2014 outcomes he attributed to deliberate efforts to stabilise the macroeconomic environment, strengthen fiscal sustainability, and boost investor confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the achievements were the result of collective work across different arms of government, including members of the Federal Executive Council, state governors, and stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am proud of what we achieved alongside colleagues\u2026 and the many dedicated professionals whose work continues to support the nation\u2019s economic transformation,\u201d Edun stated, adding that although challenges remain, the country is now on a clearer path toward sustainable and inclusive growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former minister also expressed appreciation to both local and international partners for their support and collaboration throughout his tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Describing economic reform as a continuous process, Edun said he remains optimistic about Nigeria\u2019s future and pledged his continued commitment to national service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
