The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Kolawole Babatunde, has reaffirmed that candidates for elective offices in the upcoming general elections will be selected through a consensus process, dismissing speculations of any prior endorsements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babatunde made this known while addressing party faithful at a women\u2019s rally themed \u201cMore Space for Women,\u201d organised by the state Women Leader. The event focused on advocating greater female participation in elective positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He clarified that the party\u2019s constitution permits consensus as a valid method for choosing candidates, adding that the process would involve the governor alongside key stakeholders within the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo aspirant has been endorsed. I want to make that clear. I do not have the authority to endorse anyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the governor, in consultation with party leaders, will carefully deliberate to arrive at consensus candidates in line with the party\u2019s guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babatunde also highlighted the benefits of the consensus approach, noting that it reduces the financial burden of elections and limits the influence of money in politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is less expensive and helps in demonetising the political process,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further pointed out that the party has successfully implemented the consensus model during its national convention and at zonal, state, and ward congresses without imposing financial pressure on members, describing the APC as a party that prioritises the masses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the issue of women\u2019s inclusion, Babatunde assured that their concerns would be taken into account during consultations, stressing his commitment to promoting female participation in both appointive and elective positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs chairman, I will continue to advocate for meaningful inclusion of women at all levels,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he emphasised that final decisions ultimately rest with the state governor as the party leader, while his role remains advisory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI will always contribute my input, but the leader of the party will have the final say,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babatunde commended the orderly conduct of the rally and pledged to relay the demands of participants to the governor, assuring that efforts would be made to accommodate women\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe may not achieve everything completely, but I can assure you that women will not be left out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the state APC Women Leader, Princess Toyin Iji-Ayeola, explained that the rally was aimed at urging the governor to prioritise women in governance ahead of the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She called for a 10-3-1 representation formula for women across the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate to ensure more balanced political participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
