The Police Command in Ondo State says it has disrupted a cult gathering and arrested five alleged cultists in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The command\u2019s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Akure, the state capital, saying the arrest was carried out by the command\u2019s Special Anti-Cultism Squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jimoh explained that on March 27, the command received credible and actionable intelligence from vigilant members of the public indicating that a group of individuals suspected to be cultists were converging at a residential building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the following individuals were arrested at the scene: Adesuye Dare \u2018M\u2019, Ayeerun Joshua \u2018M\u2019, Ojo Omole \u2018M\u2019, Adu Dele \u2018M\u2019, and Akeju Idowu \u2018M\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe suspects were reportedly engaged in a secret meeting, during which they were chanting cult-related slogans and exhibiting behaviours consistent with cult activities, thereby raising serious concerns about public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cActing swiftly on the intelligence, a team of operatives from SACS was immediately mobilised to the location. Upon arrival, the operatives tactically cordoned off the area and successfully apprehended the suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPreliminary investigation reveals that the suspects are members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity, a secret cult group associated with violent crimes, unlawful gatherings, and threats to public peace and order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe suspects are currently in police custody and have made useful statements that are aiding the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEfforts are also ongoing to deepen the investigation with a view to uncovering the broader network of the group, identifying additional members, and preventing any planned criminal activities linked to the syndicate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the prompt and professional response of the operatives involved in the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Jimoh, Lawal also commended members of the public whose timely information made the success possible, emphasising that community partnership remains a critical component in effective policing and crime prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the CP further reiterated the command\u2019s zero-tolerance stance against cultism and all forms of criminality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis command will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations across the state to ensure the safety and security of all residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMembers of the public, particularly youths, are strongly advised to steer clear of cult-related activities and associations, as the consequences are severe and far-reaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cParents and guardians are equally encouraged to monitor their wards and guide them against involvement in unlawful groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation. Be assured that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cResidents are urged to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information to the police, with the assurance that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
