The Ondo State Government has distanced itself from a man reportedly arrested over alleged possession of illicit drugs and firearms, dismissing claims that he is an aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
In a disclaimer issued on Tuesday, the government said reports circulating online describing the suspect as an “Ondo Governor’s Aide” were false and misleading.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the individual is not an aide to Governor Aiyedatiwa and does not hold any political appointment in the current administration.
“The young man in the report is not an aide to His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. He holds no political appointment in this administration,” Adeniyan stated.
The government said it was compelled to react following the circulation of a report and image linking the suspect to the governor’s office.
While dissociating the administration from the suspect, the state government called on the Nigeria Police Force to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that due process is followed.
“We urge the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that due process is followed in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
The government maintained that any attempt to associate the suspect with the state administration was unfounded and should be disregarded by the public.
