Gospel singer and optician, Mary Adewale, has urged Christian musicians to resist the pressure to pursue popularity at the expense of their spiritual calling.Ondo economic growth
Adewale made the call while speaking with Public Squre, where she reflected on the growing influence of secular music on the gospel music scene.
According to her, the increasing pressure to achieve instant recognition has led some gospel artistes to adopt practices and styles that are inconsistent with the purpose of gospel music.
She maintained that gospel music should primarily be about spreading the Christian message and directing people to Jesus Christ, rather than competing with secular artistes for fame and commercial success.
Adewale said artistes should also avoid measuring their progress against the achievements of their colleagues, stressing that every musician had a different path and timing.
“Change the mentality of wanting to make it by all means. Do not compare yourself with others; stay in the lane where God has called you,” she said.
The singer further advised gospel musicians facing challenges in their careers to remain patient and trust God rather than resorting to shortcuts in pursuit of success.
“Wait for your time. Don’t rush ahead of God. I believe He is still lifting people, so trust His timing,” Adewale added.
She said genuine fulfilment in gospel music should be measured by the impact made in advancing the faith and winning souls, urging practitioners to keep their hearts focused on their spiritual assignment.
