The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has commended the participation of residents during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, disclosed this on Sunday while monitoring the conclusion of the Phase 3 extension of CVR exercise.
Agboke said the exercise had been peaceful, orderly, and recorded impressive turnout across the 18 local government areas of the state.
The REC, who attributed the turnout of eligible voters to the commission’s advocacy, campaign and voter education, said the online platform added to the smooth conduct of the exercise.
“Our monitoring today, is to see the reaction of the registrants, the people and we saw that people are still coming out because of the closure today.
“We can not rule out the fact that although it is closing today, many people are still eager to be registered.
“Moreover, our advocacy, public awareness campaigns and voter education efforts to people usually prepare them to come, and they really came out.
“At one of the centres, someone said it didn’t matter what time the exercise ended today, he would go to register, even if he closes with them.
“So, this shows the enthusiasm and readiness of the people, and for me, the overall success of the exercise is a source of joy and satisfaction in Ondo State,” he said.
Agboke also reiterated the commission’s readiness to conduct free, fair and transparent elections, adding that INEC would shift its focus to preparations for the 2027 general elections after the Osun State governorship election.
According to him, the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from the first, second and third phases of the CVR exercise, including the extension, will be harmonised before printing.
Also, Mr. Adegoroye Kayode, a 76-year-old evangelist who visited the INEC office in Ondo West Local Government Area to transfer his voter registration, said the transfer was necessitated by his relocation.
INEC’s Phase 3 CVR extension commenced on May 11, 2026, and officially ended on July 26, 2026.
Agboke was accompanied by the commission’s Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Tadese Adenike, and other officials who visited some registration centres in the Ondo Central and Ondo South Senatorial Districts of the state.
