President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election in Ondo State on Saturday, securing 181,966 votes across the 18 local government areas of the state.
The result was announced in Akure by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who served as the Collation and Returning Officer for the exercise after receiving submissions from local government collation officers.
Aiyedatiwa disclosed that out of 193,334 registered party members, 181,996 were accredited for the primary, while the same number of votes were cast during the exercise.
The governor said Tinubu dominated all local government areas, polling notable figures such as 15,864 votes in Akure South, 15,320 votes in Ilaje, 14,333 votes in Ondo West, 13,313 votes in Owo and 12,257 votes in Odigbo.
According to the declared result, Tinubu also secured 12,048 votes in Akoko North-East, 10,898 votes in Akure North, 10,388 votes in Akoko North-West, while other local governments also returned massive votes in his favour.
Meanwhile, the second aspirant, Mr Osifu Osayeme Stanley, scored zero votes across all 18 local government areas.
Describing the exercise as peaceful and successful, Governor Aiyedatiwa said the outcome reflected the unity and loyalty of APC members in Ondo State.
“This is one of the most successful primary elections ever conducted in Ondo State. Party members demonstrated unity and loyalty by unanimously supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He noted that although two aspirants contested for the APC presidential ticket, Tinubu secured virtually all the votes cast in the state.
The governor also said the turnout, estimated at over 90 per cent of registered APC members, was a strong indication of the party’s growing strength ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Ondo State is fully aligned with the APC, and we are now targeting one million votes for President Tinubu in the next presidential election,” he stated.
Aiyedatiwa commended party leaders and members for ensuring a peaceful and credible process despite expectations that the president’s victory was already assured.
In his welcome address, Ondo State APC Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, described the primary as one of the most peaceful and transparent in the history of the party in the state.
He urged aspirants who lost out in previous primaries not to lose hope and remain committed to the party.
