President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure is expected to end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment, announced in a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday and signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, positions Aina to take over the leadership of one of Nigeria’s most critical educational institutions.
Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is regarded as a seasoned academic and systems expert with strong experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector reforms.
According to the Presidency, he holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained practical exposure to admissions management and data-driven institutional systems.
The Presidency said the experience helped shape his later contributions to examination reform, systems optimization and institutional digital transformation.
With over 15 years of post-graduation experience, Aina has worked at the intersection of technology, governance and policy, advising federal and state governments on system development, digital transition and operational reforms.
At 39, he reportedly became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including NECO, NABTEB and several state Ministries of Education, where he provided expertise on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process optimization.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new JAMB Registrar would deploy his expertise and practical experience to strengthen the operations of the examination body and build on the achievements recorded under the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
The appointment marks a new phase for JAMB as the Board prepares for a leadership transition after nearly a decade under Oloyede’s administration.
