President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework and intelligence coordination.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to improving national security operations through enhanced intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive responses to emerging threats across the country.
A circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, described Major General Fadewa as a seasoned security expert with over three decades of distinguished military and intelligence service.
During his military career, Fadewa played key roles in national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination, and international security diplomacy.
He notably served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, where he was instrumental in establishing the Intelligence Fusion Centre — a multi-agency platform designed to improve intelligence sharing and coordinated responses among Nigeria’s security institutions, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.
Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa continued contributing to national security discourse as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, focusing on policing reforms, civil-security cooperation, and strategic security policy development.
He is also credited with authoring the widely acclaimed monograph, “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which provides practical recommendations for strengthening collaboration between civil institutions and security agencies.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired General would bring his vast experience, professionalism, and strategic insight to bear in advancing the administration’s homeland security objectives and supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President further charged him to help deepen intelligence integration, improve security coordination, and support efforts aimed at ensuring a safer and more secure Nigeria.
