The Ondo People’s Assembly (OPA) has dismissed claims by a faction of the Ondo Redemption Front (ORF) over the security situation in Ondo State, describing them as misleading and politically motivated.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday, the Assembly, through its Convener, Comrade Olufemi Lawson, accused the ORF of pushing what it called a “recycled smear campaign” aimed at undermining the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The group criticized members of the ORF, portraying them as “disgruntled politicians posing as activists,” and alleged that their recent actions were part of a pattern of attempts to discredit the state government.
According to the OPA, the concerns raised by the ORF were not only baseless but intentionally framed to create fear and weaken public trust.
“The issues they have raised are unfounded and deliberately designed to stir panic. Over time, they have consistently distorted facts and spread false narratives in a bid to stay politically relevant,” the statement said.
The Assembly further argued that the ORF’s opposition to the governor stems from dissatisfaction with his refusal to yield to what it described as “self-serving demands.”
Responding to claims of deteriorating security, the OPA maintained that the situation in Ondo State has improved under the current administration. It pointed to strengthened collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups, enhanced surveillance in vulnerable areas, and quicker response to threats as evidence of progress.
“The reality on ground contradicts the alarm being raised. Incidents of kidnapping and banditry have reduced significantly in several parts of the state due to proactive measures put in place,” the group stated.
The Assembly also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritizing security through coordinated policies and targeted investments, noting that these efforts have boosted confidence among residents and investors.
While acknowledging that insecurity remains a broader national challenge, the OPA cautioned against what it described as attempts to single out Ondo State for political reasons.
It urged residents to be wary of “propaganda masked as activism” and to continue supporting initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
“People should not be misled by those who thrive on sensationalism and blackmail. The progress made is visible, and with sustained support, even greater strides will be achieved in ensuring safety and development,” the statement added.
