The Republican-led U.S. Senate on Wednesday rejected a renewed push by Democrats to restrict President Donald Trump’s military engagement in Iran, voting down a proposal that sought to mandate the withdrawal of American troops unless Congress approved continued action.
According to reports by the Associated Press, the resolution was defeated in a close 52–47 vote.
The outcome marks the fourth instance this year in which the Senate has declined to assert its constitutional authority over war powers, effectively allowing the president to continue military operations without explicit congressional approval.
Democrats have consistently criticised the conflict, describing it as unlawful, unconstitutional, and lacking sufficient justification.
