Olowo backs Aiyedatiwa on Ondo Poly upgrade

The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, has commended Ondo State Governor, Hon.Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over the planned upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic into a university, describing the move as a significant step towards educational and economic advancement.

The monarch’s commendation followed the submission of a transition report by a committee set up by the state government to facilitate the institution’s conversion.

In a statement, Oba Ogunoye praised the governor’s commitment to repositioning education in the state, noting that the proposed upgrade reflects a forward-looking approach to development.

He said the initiative would not only expand access to higher education, but also enhance opportunities for innovation and skills development within Owo and its environs.

The royal father stressed that prioritising key sectors such as agriculture, science, technology and management would strengthen the state’s human capital base and drive long-term growth.

He added that the transformation of the polytechnic into a university would elevate the status of Owo as a centre for academic excellence and national development.

Oba Ogunoye also acknowledged the efforts of the transition committee, chaired by Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, for delivering a comprehensive report to guide the process.

“The level of detail and professionalism demonstrated by the committee shows the seriousness attached to this project,” the monarch said.

He expressed confidence that the foundation laid by the committee would ensure a smooth take-off of the proposed university and urged stakeholders to support the initiative.
